Abstract: The competitiveness of the European Union is inevitable. Its importance is highlighted by the words of Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission: "The last four years have clearly shown how important it is to strengthen our competitiveness and our single market. [...] This refers to our ability to develop and deploy on a large scale the technologies we need for the twin green and digital transitions. It is also essential if we also want to have world-class digital players, and not just consumers of digital products or services produced elsewhere in the world." Mario Draghi, former President of the European Central Bank and former Prime Minister of Italy, published on September 9, 2024, the plan to overhaul Europe´s economy. The aim of this study is to bring to an attention the main challenges of competitiveness of the European Union and convey opinions of Mario Draghi on how to deal with them.
